Managing Widgets

Managing your widgets is an extremely useful part of your WordPress blog. To reach the widgets, go to your Dashboard, click the down arrow next to Appearance, and select Widgets. Here you will see, in the center of the page, all of your widgets in use and all of your widgets installed. On the right side of the page are the widgets on your page. To add a widget to your page, simply drag it from the center to the right-hand column. To remove, drag it from the right-hand column to the center. My favorite is the Advertisement widget for use with the Advertising Manager Plugin. It allows you to drag and drop Google Ads to your page. Very Cool!

Everyone likes to personalize their blogs, but when working with WordPress, consider installing one of the themes that have already been created for you. There is a large selection, and they are easy to install. You can find the themes by following the link provided in the Links section of your Dashboard. Follow these steps to install:

1) Download theme from website provided.

2) Upload to the Themes folder of your website, which is found by going to your wp-content folder.

3) In your WordPress Dashboard, go to Appearance, and a preview of the new theme will show up. Just click on the new theme and viola.

First Post

Welcome to my blog. I am creating this blog as a guide to those of you who would like to start your own, but are not sure where to begin. This entire blog is run out of the comfort of my own home, and is done entirely for free. On this blog, I will show you how to do the same, and please feel free to comment if you have any suggestions of your own, that would benefit my readers.

As we walk through the creation of your blog, we will begin with the grass roots, and slowly work our way into the more complicated features. This blog will be mainly for those of you not so computer literate, but with a lot to say, but also for those of you that just want to learn a little more of the intricacies of blogging.
